Thieves raided and stole hundreds of pounds of food meant for needy children and families last week from Garden Grove-based charity Grandma’s House of Hope. But thanks to a public outpouring of support, all of that food was recovered and those in need walked away with bags of nourishment to fill their otherwise empty stomachs.
The culprits reportedly knew exactly what they were doing, according to the local CBS News affiliate in Los Angeles. Organizers were scrambling to retrieve whatever they could from over 1,500 pounds of foodthat were stolen from storage containers in the church parking lot.
It usually takes about 30 days for organizers to gather that amount of food. But thanks to urgent donations from caring patrons, on Sunday, Grandma’s House of Hope was able to pack 550 bags of food for those who benefit from the charity program.
Last month, thieves also raided and stole 25 chickens from Marysville-based adult day care center Farm 2 Fork. The disabled adults who cared for the chickens, and had raised them since they were hatched several months ago, were devastated.
