President Obama tossed out jokes to attendees at the Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection Summit held at Stanford University Friday, drawing laughter and applause as he praised the university.

“I’ve got to admit, like, I kind of want to go here,” Obama said to the very friendly crowd. “I was trying to figure out why it is that a really nice place like this is wasted on young people who don’t fully appreciate what you got. It’s really nice.”

“This is the place that made ‘nerd’ cool,” he said. “I was thinking about wearing some black-rimmed glasses, some tape in the middle, but I guess that’s not what you do anymore. Ambassador McFaul told me if I came to Stanford, you’d ‘talk nerdy to me.’”

President Obama pointed out the abundance of Stanford alumni on his team, “I’m pleased to be joined by members of my team who bleed Cardinal red. We’re infiltrated with Stanford people.” He pointed out his Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker are Stanford alumni.

Last June, Obama’s oldest daughter Malia quietly toured the campus according to a San Francisco Chronicle report. The article cited a source who said, “She came with a couple of friends (and) they did the regular tour, and probably some extra stuff.”
