Police discovered a suitcase containing cut-up human body parts in San Francisco’s Mission District on Wednesday.
“This was an extremely gruesome crime scene,” said Officer Grace Gatpandan, spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The initial discovery was made around 4:15 p.m. on 11th and Market Streets when police were called regarding a suspicious package. The package turned out to be a piece of luggage containing the human remains, according to the Chronicle.
Approximately two hours later, more remains were discovered near the original crime scene before investigators and homicide detectives expanded the scene from Market Street to Howard Street.
It is unclear whether there was more than one victim involved. According to Officer Gatpandan, surveillance video footage the police department retrieved has provided investigators with a rough description of a possible suspect, the Chronicle notes. However, neither the description nor the video was being released due to ongoing nature of the investigation.
