A man wanted for attempted murder in Romania was arrested in Orinda, California on Monday after police received a call about him panhandling outside a grocery, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Gabriel Stoica, 28, wanted in Romania for attempted homicide, was panhandling near the Safeway supermarket around 2:40 p.m.,when police arrived and checked his name in a criminal database and found he was a fugitive from a foreign country.
After his arrest, Stoica was sent to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where he was in custody.
Orinda, 20 miles from San Francisco, lies roughly 6000 miles from Romania.
