A San Francisco group proudly calling itself “Street Cred – Advertising for the People” took it upon itself to deface banners from Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative that called for ending aid to Islamic countries because of their Jew-hatred.

The banners on city Muni buses originally showed a meeting between Adolf Hitler and Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini, a Muslim leader who endorsed Hitler’s Final Solution. The vandals plastered pictures of Kamala Khan, Marvel’s first Muslim character, over them, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

In addition, the vandals wrote, “Calling all bigotry busters” and “Free speech isn’t a license to spread hate,” over the banners. The banners were originally captioned, “Islamic Jew-Hatred: It’s In The Quran.”

On some banners, an original caption that read, “Stop the hate. End all aid to Islamic countries,” was altered by three hearts being placed so the message read, “Stop the hate to Islamic countries.”

On Sunday, Street Cred posted pictures its their Facebook page, and added kudos from various media outlets that agreed with its actions. The group wrote:

NOT: “..ads splattered on the sides of Muni buses, purchased by blogger Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative, are again all over San Francisco…equate Islam with Nazism.” The ads now feature Kamala Khan, Marvel’s Comics first Muslim character to headline her own comic book with messages against islamophobia, racism and hate speech and a group of protestors calling for more love. Enjoy.
