Sunday in the Visitacion section of San Francisco a police officer was caught on video pushing a wheelchair-bound man over a curb and into the street.
According to CBS KPIX5, the man in the wheelchair confronted the police officers after his relative had been detained on a street corner at Sunnydale Avenue and Hahn Street.
In a video posted on Facebook, the man who shot the video ran up to the police and protested the officers action. The wheelchair-bound man was identified in the facebook post as DeVaughn Frierson. According to a YouTube account called “The Attorney Depot,” the man helping him is identified as Edwardo Delacruz. The YouTube post said Delacruz is the cousin of two of the men seen in that video.
Police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said that “This incident is being investigated by the SFPD Internal Affairs Division and the Office of Citizen Complaints. Because this is an employee investigation, we cannot discuss the details of this case.”
Delacruz said the officer who tried to push Frierson off the curb was Officer Carrasco of the San Francisco Police Department. Frierson, according to Delacruz, was in a wheelchair as a result of a accident that paralyzed him from the neck down.
Gatpandan asserted that three of the men involved were cited for possession of open containers of alcohol and one person for obstructing an officer.
