Two California ski resorts were forced to close their lifts this week due to lack of snow.
The Dodge Ridge ski resort, just east of Sonora, announced Tuesday that it would close its lifts on the 862-acre, 8,200-feet high mountain as January temperatures in the state reached record highs.
“We probably could have limped along with some of our learning-area terrain open,” Dodge Ridge spokesman Sean Waterman told the San Francisco Chronicle. “But it’s not quite the experience that we want people to have.”
Dodge Ridge joined Badger Pass in Yosemite National Park, which announced Monday it would close its lifts until further notice.
According to the Chronicle, ski patrols at Dodge Ridge had been moving snow back and forth across the mountain in attempt to cover the resort’s most popular runs and terrain parks. But ultimately, the snow left over from Christmas melted too fast and the effort outweighed the benefits, Waterman told the paper.
The mountain will reportedly reopen after the next big snowstorm.
