Monday Oracle Corporation announced that former CIA director and secretary of defense under President Obama, Leon Panetta, will become a director for the Silicon Valley multinational computer technology giant.
The Mercury News observed that Panetta will join the ranks of several elite Washington DC public figures strategizing for Silicon Valley companies.
Other Washington figures sharing their expertise and influence with Silicon Valley corporations are former secretary of state Colin Powell at Salesforce.com., former secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at Dropbox, and previous Obama advisor David Plouffe now with Uber.
Panetta has deep roots in the region having grown up on a ranch in Carmel Valley and attending Santa Clara University. The former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton established the Panetta Institute for Public Policy at Cal State Monterey with his wife Sylvia in 1997 to educate young people that working for the government is a worthy endeavor.
