Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) announced on Thursday that she will retire from her position after finishing her fourth term in office and more than three decades in Congress. She claims neither age nor the the strain of politics played roles in her decision.
“Some people are old at 40 and some people are young at 80, but I feel as young as I did when I got elected,” Boxer said during an interview with her grandson Zach Rodham, in which the announcement was made. The video is also posted to her web site.
“I am never going to retire. The work is too important. But I will not be running for the senate in 2016.” Boxer, 74, said she wants to come home to California; the state she loves so much. She said she will be focusing on helping the Democratic candidate for president.
