Twenty-eight dangerous gang members have been apprehended in the El Centro sector of the U.S.-Mexico border this year, with the most recent an aggravated felon member of the “Sureños 13” criminal street gang arrested Thursday morning.
Jose Carmona-Escobar, a 43-year-old Mexican national, was attempting to make illegal entry into the United States when Border Patrol agents arrested him. Carmona was found to have a lengthy record of criminal activity and immigration violations.
Carmona has, “convictions from Riverside for stolen property, vehicle theft, control substance for sale, and battery of a spouse,” according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release.
Border Patrol had Carmona in custody as of Friday, and he will be criminally prosecuted for illegal re-entry into the U.S.
