Police responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon shot one suspect wielding a knife. The shooting took place at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in the heart of Hollywood Friday night according to early reports of the incident.

A Los Angeles Police Department representative told Breitbart California that police responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arriving at the scene the suspect had a knife. The circumstances of the shooting were unavailable in the initial report; police did shoot the suspect at least once according to the representative.

The injured suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition but “has since passed” the LAPD representative told Breitbart.

A wide range of conflicting accounts regarding the incident appeared on social media following the shooting.

Video was taken in the moments after the incident occurred according to Jordan White, the individual who posted the video to social media.

No officers were injured in the incident according to the LAPD representative.

Accounts of shots fired ranged between one and ten.

LAPD Communications @911LAPD tweeted at 8:28pm Friday, “?#MEDIA: ?#LAPD Investigation at Hollywood/ Highland. PIO en route, expect traffic delays in area. Pls be patient.”

Protests occurred Thursday night in Hollywood according to online postings that included video. The protesters marched over grand jury decisions not to indict police officers involved in the deaths of Eric Garner in New York and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
