An officer-involved shooting in the lobby of the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel in Beverly Hills Monday evening left a bank robbery suspect critically injured and caused Rodeo Drive to be shut down for several hours.
The shooting happened at about 4:20 p.m. Monday evening, Beverly Hills Police Department officials told NBC Los Angeles.
The suspect had allegedly robbed a Bank of America store twenty minutes before the shooting. The stolen money reportedly had a tracking device on it that led police to the suspect’s location in the lobby of the hotel.
According to NBC, a bystander named Rubin Lee pointed out the suspect to police as he was fleeing the bank.
“I told them I just saw the guy so I pointed towards 360, it’s the Luxe Hotel,” Rubin told NBC. “Within a couple of seconds they all ran, not even twenty seconds from there there was a gunshot.”
“We just got out of the cab in front of the hotel,” witness Cody Brasher told NBC. “Heard a gunshot then I saw people running out of the hotel, and so I didn’t look back, I just ran with everyone else.”
The injured suspect was taken by ambulance to a local hospital at about 4:28 p.m., where he was listed in critical condition and is reportedly undergoing surgery. A second suspect believed to have been involved in the bank robbery was captured outside the bank before the shooting, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
No police officers were hurt during the shooting.
