The Anaheim Police Department has declined to state whether two gang members arrested Oct. 25 and charged with the murder of a 9-year-old girl in Anaheim last weekend are in the country illegally.
“That’s something the federal authorities look into, post-arrest–not something we facilitate,” said Lt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department when questioned by reporters from Los Angeles’s KABC AM 790.
The two, Ricardo Cruz, 19, of Buena Park and Alfredo Miguel Aquino, 20, of Anaheim were arrested the same day Ximena Meza was hit in the chest by a bullet while she was playing outside with her sisters, the apparent victim of a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting.
She “died in my arms,” her father said, according to NBC Los Angeles.
KABC 790 indicated Monday evening that the police were withholding several other details about the two suspects, including the name of the gang to which they belonged, and which man is thought to have fired the fatal shot, as they continue their investigation.
Both suspects were reportedly in violation of earlier probation orders from 2013. Cruz was also reportedly on parole at the time of the shooting.
