On October 5, a Lake Elsinore resident reportedly shot and killed a home invader while the resident’s wife was on the phone with 911 reporting a “burglary in progress.”
The wife told the dispatcher that her husband had a handgun and was warning the intruder not to enter the home. Yet even as the wife talked the intruder broke out a window and tried to come inside the residence. That’s when the husband opened fire.
According to the Press Enterprise, Sheriff’s officials report the same story–the intruder ignored warnings, broke out a window while being told to stay away, and “the homeowner opened fire.”
The suspect lived long enough to be transported to “the Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he succumbed to his injuries.”
The Sheriff’s Department is “not seeking charges” against the homeowner.
The Press Enterprise adds that in October 2012, a 72-year-old Lake Village resident shot and killed a man who allegedly cut off the power to his home then “pushed…a window air conditioner into the house” to gain entrance. Lawful Use reports that the homeowner awoke to the crash of the window unit, came downstairs and warned the intruder that he was armed. The intruder ignored the warnings and the homeowner shot him.
The suspect died at a local hospital.
