Obama to Stump at 'Silicon Beach' Tech Campus

SANTA MONICA, California — President Barack Obama will visit a start-up incubator called Cross Campus on Thursday as part of his latest fundraising trip to Southern California. Obama will use the trip to Cross Campus, one of several such facilities in the “Silicon Beach” corridor of West Los Angeles, to tout his economic record and to court the millennial voters that have proved one of the most reliable parts of his demographic base.

In an email to Cross Campus members on Tuesday, CEO Dan Dato informed those renting space at the facility that they would not be able to use it for more than 24 hours, and that tickets to the previously unannounced event had already been distributed to the most senior members of the startup community. “We only had a limited number of invites to the event which were extended to our longest-standing members,” Dato said.

Earlier this year, the president visited a similar tech incubator in Washington, D.C. known as 1776. He used that appearance to promote comprehensive immigration reform, which enjoys wide support among tech executives, though it also frequently encounters some resistance from American workers competing for jobs.

Vice President Joe Biden also completed a visit to the L.A. area this week, raising money and promoting minimum wage hikes.
