Just after 4 a.m. Saturday morning, Sandra Vilchez, 29, mother of three, delivered her fourth child on the side of the 91 freeway–with some help from her husband, CBS Los Angeles reports.
The couple’s three children were in the backseat of their Chevy Tahoe when their 11-pound, 6-ounce infant daughter Savannah emerged. Sandra Vilchez made an emergency call, but the paramedics arrived just after the birth and cut the umbilical cord before they took the mother and child to Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center.
KCAL-9’s Erica Nochlin reported that the father, Bolivar Vilchez, 35, pulled over to help his wife deliver the child. Sandra Vilchez told Nochlin that the three previous children did not have sudden deliveries the way the fourth did.
The family was on its way to Sandra Vilchez’s mother’s house in Downey, so Vilchez thought there was enough time, but she said when the baby came, she thought, “I can’t believe this is happening to me … It was shocking, honestly shocking. It was like out of a movie.” Her husband simply said, “Nothing could prepare you for this.”
