A startup in Los Angeles is baking up marijuana-infused pizzas and delivering them right to patients’ doors, providing both a potent high and the inevitable munchies in one convenient package.
Stoned Oven Gourmet Pizza bakes six-inch pizzas with 250 mg of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, in them, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Medical marijuana patients can buy the frozen pizzas for just $10 at dispensaries all over Los Angeles, or have them delivered right to their door. Patients can see which dispensaries carry the pizzas at the Stoned Oven Gourmet website. And, assuming everyone at the party is a valid medical marijuana patient, the company also offers catering services.
According to Foodbeast, the THC in the pizza is extracted using ethanol, so “you get 100% of the weed feelings with only a fraction of that weird burnt pot taste.”
Still, Vice News’ Josh Androsky and Cornell Reid found at least one “big problem” with the pizzas.
“Here’s the big problem with the pizza: it is insanely strong,” they wrote. “One personal pizza has 250 mg of weed. For those of you who have never combined eating narcotics and math before, High Times recommends about 25 mgs per dose of edibles to have a safe, good time. To put that into layman’s terms, that means that even cutting this tiny pizza into eighths might lead you to pass out in the nearest bed.”
Stoned Oven Gourmet reportedly sells between 2,000 and 3,000 pizzas to dispensaries weekly, a high number for a relatively new company. Henry Mark, the company’s owner, told Foodbeast that a new line of pizzas with different kinds of weed is in the works.
