A pedicab driver was arrested early Tuesday morning in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter after being accused of driving drunk while wearing a 2-foot-long ball python around his neck.
Travis Young, 27, was arrested after being spotted at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The ball python, a non-venomous snake, was taken in by the San Diego County Department of Animal Services and transferred to an animal shelter. As of late Tuesday afternoon, the snake’s condition was listed as “not doing well.” According to the report, the python was being treated for dehydration, anemia, and starvation.
Animal services officials told the Times that the ball python is not a “restricted” species, and can be purchased as a pet.
