A Mexican citizen was busted last week for attempting to smuggle over $1.5 million in marijuana over the U.S.-Mexico border under the guise that he was hauling a large quantity of Christmas bows.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa Cargo Facility discovered the drugs after a truck and trailer pulled into the port of entry with a load cargo manifested as Christmas bows.
Officers further inspected the shipment and discovered anomalies. Upon field-testing the boxes, officers extracted the substance that tested positive for marijuana.
209 packages of the drug were found inside the boxes, with an estimated value of $1.5 million. CBP reports seizing the marijuana, tractor, and trailer. The driver is awaiting arraignment at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
