Napa Eyewitness: Quake Shook House 'Like a Matchbox'

As residents continue to clean up the damage caused by the Napa earthquake on Sunday, and aftershocks keep coming, some are beginning to find words to describe what many felt was an “otherworldly” experience.

Rabbi Elchonon Tenenbaum, who has lived in Napa for eight years, told Breitbart News on Tuesday that his house “shook like a matchbox” on Sunday morning, waking his family with a terrifying jolt. The noise of the quake, he said, was “not of this world.” The house, he said, “felt like it was being bombed.” No one was injured, he said, but the magnitude 6.0 quake shook furniture and scattered books and cutlery across the floor.

“You go into survival mode,” he said. “The kids were screaming, I ran to get a flashlight, then ran outside without shoes.” The aftershocks, he said, have been nearly as frightening as the original earthquake.
