UPS Driver Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Guns to Sell 'on the Black Market'

On July 25, a UPS driver was arrested and faces federal charges for allegedly stealing “dozens of guns to sell… on the black market.”

According to the Associated Press, 36-year-old Curtis Hays was charged with “[stealing] packages at the UPS shipping hub in Ontario.” The federal indictment against him alleges the packages were stolen in 2012 and contained “72 weapons… [which] were bound for a Turner’s Outdoorsman sporting goods store in Rancho Cucamonga.” 

The list of stolen weapons included pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

89.3 KPCC reports that Hays had an alleged “co-conspirator and middleman” whom he would meet in Rancho Cucamonga and to whom he would pass the stolen guns. Prosecutors say that middleman was 35-year-old Dennis Dell White, Jr., of Moreno Valley. 

White stands “accused of selling the guns on the street or to other illegal gun dealers.”

Both Hays and the Moreno Valley man could face ten years in prison if convicted on charges of “conspiracy and theft crimes.”

Hays also faces charges over the theft of “jewelry and mobile phones.”
