The former San Diego Mayor whose philandering ways got him kicked out of office was admitted to the hospital after an alleged loss of consciousness, reported 10 News.
Last October, Filner pled guilty to felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor battery for acts of mistreatment against women. In April, advocate against domestic violence Marilyn McGaughy filed a lawsuit against Filner for sexual harassment – including kissing, massaging, and groping – while the former Mayor was still in office.
A source told 10 News that Filner’s episode, which led to his admittance to Scripps Mercy Hospital, was suspected to be due to a Syncopal episode. According to the Mayo Clinic’s website, a syncopal episode is one of the most common causes of fainting and involves the body’s overreaction to triggers, including seeing blood or experiencing emotional distress.
Mayoclinic.com also states, “Vasovagal syncope is usually harmless and requires no treatment. But it’s possible you may injure yourself during a vasovagal syncope episode. Also, your doctor may recommend tests to rule out more-serious causes of fainting, such as heart disorders.”
