The defunct Occupy Wall Street’s legacy, in part, was bringing the term “one percent” into the lexicon. The term targeted the rich, who apparently weren’t paying their fair share to society.
Gene Simmons begs to differ.
In fact, the Kiss mainstay and proud one percenter says the country would be in shambles without that unfairly maligned group.
Simmons spoke to U-T San Diego this week about being rich, famous and proud of it.
I have been part of the 1 percent for the past 30 years,” declared the bassist and periodic singer in Kiss, which performs here Sunday night at Sleep Train Amphitheatre. (See below for ticket information.)
What’s it like being part of the 1 percent?
“It’s fantastic!” he replied. “The 1 percent pays 80 percent of all taxes. Fifty percent of the population of the U.S. pays no taxes. The 1 percent provides all the jobs for everybody else. If the 1 percent didn’t exist, there would be chaos and the American economy would drop dead. Try being nice to rich people. I don’t remember the last poor person who gave me a job.
