'Glassholes' Can Now Purchase Designer Frames

Limited edition Diane von Furstenberg Google Glass has finally gone on sale on fashion websites Net-A-Porter.com and MrPorter.com, enabling anticipatory and interested consumers to wear their smart technology in style.

Google Glass goers can now purchase the spectacles in male or female varieties. The female version is available on Net-A-Porter for $1,800 and includes frames in the colors of brown, charcoal, teal and plum along with shades of various colors, and include a mono ear bud and a case to store the glasses in. For $1,650, the men’s version is available on MrPorter with various frame and color varieties which include orange, gray and white and come in bold, thin, or split frames — (which are essentially half and half).

The Silicon Valley-based company’s partnership with American fashion icon and designer DVF was part of a move to appeal to the general public and convince them that “Google Glass is not something just for the nerds.” Many potential buyers had complained that Google’s original design was not as alluring as they had wanted.

Frames by other branded names such as Ray-Ban and Oakley are slated to hit the scene come 2015 and will satisfy a larger demographic of individuals who are keen on a greater variety of Glass designs.

Google urges Glass users to proceed responsibly. They released a list of do’s and don’ts to the general public in February following a string of complaints by the public who encountered what the tech giant deemed as “Glassholes.” On their site, they guide Glass users to “respect others’ privacy and if they have questions about Glass don’t get snappy. Be polite and explain what Glass does and remember, a quick demo can go a long way.”
