Is Tesla the latest target of Texas Governor Rick Perry’s recent campaign to woo California businesses to the Lone Star State? Perry was seen cruising around in a Tesla vehicle in Sacramento Tuesday, just days after Governor Jerry Brown’s administration announced its intent to persuade the car maker to build a battery factory in California, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Trying to recruit Tesla is “one of our goals, obviously,” Perry told Bee reporters outside of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Perry, who was sporting a pair of black shades that BuzzFeed says “look like they’re from The Matrix,” told reporters that a “Made in Texas” bumper sticker would look awfully good on the Tesla Model S vehicle.
The Texas governor told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview in Beverly Hills Sunday that he makes “no apologies” for his effort to recruit California businesses.
“Over-taxation, over-regulation, over-litigation” are what Governor Perry cites as the most causal factors in why California has “lost its luster” as of recent days, Perry told Bee reporters. Texas has recently been seen as a tax-friendly destination for many California businesses such as Toyota and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) who have announced that they will be leaving California for Texas.
Perry began running radio ads throughout California last year which feature him giving the following message: “Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible. This is Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and I have a message for California businesses: Come check out Texas.”
