The Los Angeles Times reports that incumbent Gavin Newsom will face Republican Ron Nehring in the Lt. Governor race in November. With ten percent of the votes counted, Newsome has garnered over 50% of the vote, and Nehring is in second with 23%.
The charismatic 46-year-old Newsome is expected to win easily in November, the Times reported. The former mayor of San Francisco is known for his progressive leaning and has been outspoken in his support for same sex marriage and LGBT rights. Newsome has expressed a desire to run for Governor in 2018.
Nehring is the former California Republican Chairman and is backed by conservative groups such as the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the NRA.
