NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Backs Ex-DreamWorks Exec Greuel for Waxman Seat

The oh, so tight race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman in California is attracting some unlikely political forces.

Last week, singer Alanis Morissette recorded a campaign song for Marianne Williamson, one of several candidates vying to fill the Congressional District 33 seat.

Now, New York City Mayor Bill is throwing his weight–and financial power–into the campaign on behalf of former studio executive Wendy Greuel.

The NYC mayor will also host a fundraiser for former DreamWorks executive Greuel at a Park Avenue club on May 20th, according to sources. Audrey Gelman, Lena Dunham’s friend and Girlsmuse, is expected to co-host the event, along with Alliance Hollywood founder Nomiki Konst.

With the June 3rd primary election less than a month away, former LA mayoral candidate Greuel and seven other candidates are locked in a battle for endorsements and campaign funds. The hopefuls include State Senator Ted Lieu, author and inspirational speaker Marianne Williamson, Venice defense attorney David Kanuth, radio host Matt Miller and lawyers Elan Carr, Barbara Mulvaney and Tom Fox.

The top two winners in next month’s primary battle will square off in the November election.
