Mirroring one of Spain’s greatest, most dangerous traditions – the Running of the Bulls – the Boston-based company The Great Bull Run is poised to take place at a still undisclosed location in Los Angeles County – in November – and will be announced sometime next week, according to KABC-TV.
The controversial event was supposed to take place at the Temecula Downs Event Center next month but was canceled this week after nearly 2,000 people signed up following conflicting reports about a permit; the Great Bull Run company says they cancelled because Riverside County never approved their permit, but Riverside County says the company never actually applied for one.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is against the event altogether, and an attorney for the organization called the event “a display of human idiocy,” according to KABC-TV.
A spokesman for The Great Bull Run said that they’ve had over 20,000 runners participating at their events so far and have had only two somewhat serious injuries.
The event is set to take place on July 26 in Northern California’s Alameda County Fairgrounds. It’s already taken place this year in Florida and Dallas, Texas, and includes upcoming events in Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Virginia, and in Pennsylvania.
