San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department Pulls Deputies Because Their Guns Won't Fire

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department has been forced to pull some deputies “off the street” when two Sig Sauer .40 caliber handguns were found “not firing” at the gun range.

According to CBS Sacramento, the Sheriff’s department has also pulled “more than 300 guns that were purchased over the last eight months” and replaced them with “old guns.”

Les Garcia of the Sheriff’s department said, “We’re not going to take a chance that a gun is in service out there when a deputy sheriff may need to [use] it to protect their life or somebody else’s and the gun fails. That’s unacceptable.”

Sig Sauer believes an incorrect pin, responsible for holding a spring in place, was likely installed in the guns. Sig Sauer personnel are flying out “to handle the matter” May 9th.
