President Barack Obama landed in Air Force One at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego just before noon on Thursday. Recently-elected San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican, was present to greet the president.
As he disembarked, Obama stopped to speak with some of the families that had gathered to shake hands with him and take pictures with him.
Obama continued to to a fundraiser hosted at the La Jolla home of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs. Jacobs was the second-highest bundler to Obama’s 2012 re-election.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel are among the scheduled attendees. Attendees at the luncheon will reportedly receive lunch and a photo with the president for a mere $10,000. For $32,400 per couple, VIPs will attend an exclusive reception with the president in addition to the luncheon.
Protestors for and against the Keystone XL pipeline, which Obama has not yet approved or rejected, have gathered outside the La Jolla venue.
President Obama spoke at a fundraiser and awards gala in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and will only be in San Diego for a few hours before flying to the Bay Area for a fundraiser with Silicon Valley executives.
