Attorneys for “John Doe No. 117,” a British teenager who is filing a lawsuit claiming sexual abuse by X-Men director Brian Singer and Broadway producer Gary Goddard, will present their client’s case Monday in Los Angeles. Singer is facing another suit filed by the same lawyer on behalf of a different client, and has denied wrongdoing in that case. Singer’s attorney told the Daily Beast that the new claims were “completely false.”
According to a press release from the office of attorney Jeff Herman, Singer and Goddard allegedly attempted to recruit “John Doe No. 117” into sexual encounters, both online and in person in the United Kingdom, before he had reached 18 years old, the legal age of consent in the U.S. At least some of the encounters described in the lawsuit are alleged to have occurred after John Doe reached 16 years old, the legal age of consent in Britain.
One encounter described by the lawsuit describes John Doe allegedly being forced into a sexual encounter when he was 17, after he was allegedly beaten by a “large, musclebound man” and forcibly stripped of his clothing.
On May 1, Herman had promised that “dozens and dozens and dozens” of victims in related cases would be coming forward, involving people”across all of Hollywood: studios, agents, directors, producers, and actors.”
