California Chrome will try to become the first Cailfornia-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby since 1962.
The horse, trained by Art Sherman, is a 5-2 favorite and drew the No. 5 post.
“I think it’s a perfect spot,” Sherman told ESPN. “I think we break clean, he’ll get out of a lot of trouble. He’s got a little gas leaving there.”
Victor Espinoza, who won the Derby riding War Emblem in 2002, will be the jockey on the three-year old thoroughbred for the 140th Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs.
