L.A. Mayor Urges NBA to 'Act Swiftly' in Response to 'Despicable' Sterling Comments

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti ripped Clippers owner Donald Sterling on Sunday after a tape surfaced in which Sterling purportedly tells his girlfriend not to bring black people to Clippers games.

Garcetti told the Los Angeles Times that he condemns the “statements and sentiments” on the tape.

“These statements are offensive and despicable and have no place in Los Angeles. I urge the NBA to act swiftly. L.A. fans deserve and demand better,” he said

The NBA is investigating the remarks and the audio recording, which Sterling’s girlfriend’s lawyer said was authentic. The Clippers protested before their Game 4 loss at Golden State by wearing black socks, dumping their warm-up uniforms at midcourt, and wearing their warm-up shirts inside out.
