According to CBS Los Angeles, on Sunday a man walked into a hospital in Torrance at around 9:20 AM and grabbed a nurse from behind, stabbing her in the ear with a sharp implement.
Thomas Robert Fredette of Santee, CA was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in lieu of $130,000 bail. The LA deputy Sheriff said that Fredette had passed through a weapons screening area when he came upon a group of nurses and attacked the victim. The nurse was able to free herself and alerted authorities to apprehend the stabber.
The victim was treated at the scene, and her wound was apparently not life-threatening. Authorities believe the sharp object used by the perpetrator was a pencil. There did not appear to be any reasonable motive for the attack.
In a potentially more dangerous incident, a 26-year-old Los Angeles man, Romiro Carnalia, allegedly stabbed a nurse at a Sylmar hospital around 2 AM Sunday. The victim endured multiple stabbings to her torso by the knife-wielding Carnalia.
