President Barack Obama can’t stop the California drought, but he is making it rain–for the Democratic Party.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Obama will return to the Bay Area in early May for two fundraisers–one at the home of Yahoo! CEO Marissa Meyer, the other at the home of 23andMe CEO Ann Wojcicki, who is separated from husband Sergei Brin, co-founder of Google. Meyer also hosted Obama for a fundraiser in 2010.
Bay Area fundraising for Obama and the Democrats has come under increasing scrutiny lately, thanks to the activism of San Francisco billionaire Tom Steyer, who is leading efforts to oppose approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, and who prompted Democrats to hold a symbolic all-night session on the floor of the Senate to discuss global warming. Republicans charged that Steyer had “rented” the Senate in exchange for campaign donations.
