President Trump minced no words on Wednesday, when he said he would like the country opened up “as soon as possible.”
Moreover, while speaking with a group of business owners, Trump described a conversation with an unnamed sports owner in which the president made it clear that he didn’t want to see two to three seats between fans at stadiums. Instead, Trump says he it “the way it was.”
“You’re not going to have a stadium that’s 30% of the size of what it was three months ago,” Trump said. “We want it to be the way it was.”
Trump, however, made clear that it might take some time before people can sit together in close proximity again.
“Now, we’re going to wait until it’s gone,” Trump explained. “It’s going to go. It will be eradicated.”
Though, he hastened to add, “I don’t want people to get used to” social distancing.
While sports leagues make preparations to return to the playing field at some point in the near future, most likely without fans. A recent poll conducted by Seton Hall University said that 72% of fans say they would not attend a sporting event without a vaccine for the coronavirus.
