A newlywed couple in Surf City, North Carolina, is thanking a FedEx employee for making a very special delivery on April 10.
When the coronavirus pandemic forced Savannah Kulenic and Dylan Perkins to cancel their dream wedding in Hawaii, they were devastated, according to WTOC.
The health crisis also prevented their cruise and reception and even temporarily shut down the company making Perkins’ wedding band.
However, that did not stop the bride from coming up with alternate plans for the big day.
“Everything fell apart,” Savannah recalled, adding, “I was very determined to get married April 10, very determined.”
She quickly put together a ceremony at a friend’s beach house in Surf City, making sure to obey the governor’s order which banned gatherings of more than ten people.
The day before their wedding, the couple found out that the company making the groom’s ring had reopened and agreed to ship it overnight via FedEx.
The only problem was the ceremony was set for 3 p.m. and the ring would not arrive until 4:30 p.m.
Thankfully, photographer Amy Shores put a note that read “YOU HAVE THE RING” on the front door of the beach house the day of the wedding, just before everyone left for the ceremony.
When FedEx driver Joe Engel showed up, he saw the note and immediately headed toward the beach where the ceremony had already begun.
Moments later, Savannah looked up and saw the delivery man holding the box that contained her beloved’s ring.
“She immediately turned and started running towards me,” Engel said of the bride, adding, “We kind of met down the beach, and I just handed it over to her and said, ‘Congratulations.'”
Later, Shores called the ceremony that had just five people in attendance “the most special wedding I’ve ever photographed.”
Even though it did not turn out to be quite what the couple expected, Engel was honored to play such an important role.
“I’m so happy that they had a great wedding, and I didn’t ruin it by being the last-minute ring bearer,” he commented.
Following the ceremony, Shores praised the delivery man and said the entire moment should be made into a FedEx commercial.
“You know, with all of the bad going on, there are still good people in the world, and in the end, love wins,” she concluded.
