A young woman got a chance to tell her grandfather that she is engaged, despite being separated behind a window due to restrictions many health care facilities have put in place due to the coronavirus.
The visitor restrictions are in place at these healthcare facilities to keep these vulnerable populations safe from the coronavirus.
But that did not stop Carly Boyd from sharing some exciting news with her grandfather.
Boyd, who got engaged over the weekend, told her grandfather through the window of his room at Premier Living and Rehab Center in Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, WECT reported.
The nursing home’s administrator, Gennie Parnell, was on hand to take photos of the moment she showed him the ring, and she and her grandfather touched hands on the windowpane.
The staff posted the heartwarming moment to Facebook, where it has been shared 154,000 times and liked nearly 200,000 times as of Tuesday afternoon.
Boyd is currently studying at Southeastern Community College to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Trevor Sellers, a contractor with the Department of Transportation, asked for Boyd’s hand in marriage this past weekend.
“Coronavirus didn’t stop this granddaughter and grandfather from sharing this happy moment,” wrote April Bass, the community activity coordinator at the facility.
Boyd is not the first to share a special occasion with a loved one in a care home in a time of isolation. A man recently celebrated his 67th wedding anniversary outside his wife’s nursing home because the nursing home was not allowing any visitors.
