Law enforcement investigators discovered three marijuana “grow operations” scattered about the properties on which eight Rhoden family members were murdered in Piketon, Ohio.
The eight victims ranged in age from 16 to 44 years old and were all “shot in the head while sleeping at four [separate] residences” on Friday.
According to CNN, State Attorney General Mike DeWine gave a press conference Sunday in which he described the killings as a “pre-planned execution” that was part of a “sophisticated operation.” He mentioned the discovery of the marijuana “grow operations” which he also described as “sophisticated.” He said the operations were “not for personal use.” Rather, they were “for something much bigger than that.”
DeWine said investigators do not know how many gunmen were involved in the murders, but “50-60 people have been interviewed, 100 tips received, 18 pieces of evidence submitted to the crime lab and at least five search warrants issued and completed.”
Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader stressed that the Rhoden family was certainly singled out, was certainly targeted. And he said he has warned remaining Rhoden family members to “be armed.”
