A twelfth arrest has been made in London after a man was stabbed to death in Hackney, represented by Labour’s Diane Abbott in the House of Commons.
Police were called to an incident at 5:47 p.m. on Wednesday 17th April in Matthias Road, to find a man had been stabbed through the heart. Police administered CPR but the victim, Steven Brown, 47, died of his injuries at the scene.
So far, a dozen people have been arrested in connection with the attack — but all have been released under bail or under investigation. The most recent arrest was of a 22 year old man who has been released on bail until May 24th. His arrest on Friday followed another earlier in the day when police questioned a 27-year-old man who has now been released under investigation.
Meanwhile, another incident of knife crime has rocked the capital, with a reported stabbing taking place In Muswell Hill on Monday night. Police were called to an incident in which an 18-year-old man had been attacked. He was rushed to hospital where his condition was described as “life-threatening”.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with this attack.
The recent stabbings come as new figures released this week show that violent crime across England and Wales has soared by 19 per cent.
Knife crime is at its highest level since records began, with 40,829 incidents reported — an average of 112 per day.
Possession of a bladed object or knife had risen by a staggering 20 per cent over the same period.
In terms of knife-related crime, London, run by Labour mayor Sadiq Khan, ranks as the most dangerous area in England and Wales, with 166 incidents per 100,000 people.
By contrast, Surrey, the lowest on the list, Surrey, experiences only 5 incidents per 100,000 people.
