Prime Minister Theresa May is to meet with the Conservative backbench 1922 Committee Wednesday as speculation mounts she is to face a vote of no confidence, according to media reports.
It is believed that the Prime Minister is meet Wednesday evening with her colleagues, many of whom are frustrated with her handling of Brexit and the ongoing concessions she has been making to the European Union in exit negotiations.
“She is going and taking the opportunity to talk to colleagues,” a senior Conservative Party source told Sky News.
The chairman of the 1922 Committee, Graham Brady, needs to receive 48 letters from Tory MPs to trigger a vote of no confidence; some MPs have claimed that the number had been reached, with Buzzfeed’s Alex Wickham reporting that four letters had been received over the weekend — including from two Remain-backing MPs.
However, the BBC Laura Kuenssberg tweeted earlier in the day that the “48 letter threshold has NOT been reached yet I’m told — for now.”
