Kassam on Alabama: Brexit Has Taken Nearly 30 Years, And So Will Making America Great Again

Sometimes the uniparty will still win. But we’re still better off than we were even two years ago, when the uniparty always won.

Mitt Romney, Ivanka Trump, Sen. Shelby, Mitch McConnell – many with influence (but not Bill Kristol, he doesn’t have influence) impressed upon the voters of Alabama that an extreme abortion advocate and paid-up liberal should be returned as their senator. Unfortunately, enough listened.

At the time of writing it seems just shy of 23,000 write-in voters listened, the margin between Jones and Moore ending up around 21,000. That’s under two per cent of Alabama voters for whom the swamp still hadn’t become dirty enough for them to reject. Okay fine, let it get worse then. That’s your choice.

Sure, Roy Moore was an imperfect vehicle, as many acknowledged. Who isn’t? But we learned over the last week the whole yearbook allegation basically fell apart.

This is what the establishment will do and has done for years now in the face of real revolt. Lie, cheat, and try to steal the elections. Who cares about accuracy and veracity? They’ll litigate all that in the aftermath. Lucky for them this time they won’t need to.

But Doug Jones’s victory in Alabama is scarcely the smashing rebuff the media will portray it as. It’s a learning moment for an army of deplorables who haven’t been used to fighting this hard, for this long, and who are committed to taking their country back.

I remember watching the executive chairman of this parish, Stephen K. Bannon, on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) back in February. This was when he was in the White House, and he said something that will always stick with me: “If you think they’re going to give you your country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken. Every day — every day, it is going to be a fight”.

So tomorrow is another day.

Insurgent movements aren’t overnight revolutions. Rarely in history is there such a thing. The American revolution took decades to truly come to a conclusion, some historians don’t consider that it was finished until after the War of 1812.

And that “Brexit” thing you heard so much about in 2016? That rebellion began in 1992 with the Maastricht rebels in the Conservative Party, which in turn gave rise to UKIP, which in turn gave rise to Nigel Farage, who put a movement together that ended up, nearly 20 years later, finally voting to take their country back.

It will be more like 30 years by the time the whole Brexit process is complete, from start to finish.

There were so many losses over that time. Local elections, national elections, special elections… Nigel is often heard to quip that he once feared becoming the patron saint of lost causes. But in the end, good triumphed over the establishment.

Roy Moore voters weren’t just Roy Moore voters. They’re not just Republican voters. They’re not even just Trump voters. They are American citizens who have seen what’s going on elsewhere in the world and are intent on saving their country whatever the cost.

You know what? I think they’ll do it. Whether the uniparty racks up a few greasy victories or not. I think they’ll do it.
