‘Mr. Brexit’ Nigel Farage has slammed the “ludicrous” London Mayor Sadiq Khan for comparing U.S. President Donald Trump to Islamic State terrorists.
The former UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader suggested the London mayor had “lost the plot” after he implied the U.S. president was “helping” the terror group.
He was reacting to Mr. Khan’s comments at the Labour Party conference in Brighton, where the Mayor represented Mr. Trump’s travel ban from terror-linked states as an attack on all Muslims.
Mr. Khan claimed: “What you are saying is not dissimilar to what Daesh or so-called IS says. They say that there is a clash of civilisations, it is not possible to be a Muslim and a Westerner, and the West hates us.”
“You are inadvertently playing their game, you are helping them,” he added.
Hitting back on Fox News on Monday, Mr. Farage said: “I think he’s lost the plot, hasn’t he?
“How on Earth can you compare Trump to ISIS? ISIS is a barbarous, murderous regime that inflicts countless misery on as many people as it can.
“And Donald Trump, whether you like him or not, and maybe the mayor doesn’t like him… But Trump, is actually, standing up defending our Christian culture with extraordinary opposition – from judges in America, people in his own party.
“But honestly, I do think Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, is, to put it mildly, wide of the mark with these comments – they are ludicrous.”
Mr. Trump and Mr. Khan have clashed repeatedly before after the London Mayor attacked the president on Twitter.
The Mayor also flew to the U.S. to oppose Mr. Trump’s candidacy and said his platform was based on “scapegoating.”
President Trump hit back after the London Bridge attack, criticizing Mr. Khan’s insistence that Islamist terror is “part and parcel” of life in a city and London was “one of the safest in the world.”
