United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday confirmed the death of at least one American in Thursday’s terrorist attacks in Spain and said there is still work being done to confirm “injuries and deaths of others.”

Tillerson offered “deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the American killed as well as thoughts and prayers to the families of all of those who died as a result of the terror attacks.

The Secretary of State’s full comments were:

I want to acknowledge that we have now received word and confirmed the death of one American citizen in the terrorist attacks in Spain amongst those who have been killed. We are still confirming the injuries and deaths of others, but obviously we express our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of this individual and obviously the others who have been, who have suffered loss of life and we offer our thoughts and prayers to their families as they’re going to being dealing with a very, very tough few days ahead of them.

The death toll has risen to 14 people and approximately 80 more have been injured in terror attacks on Thursday in Spain. Authorities are saying that the four attacks in the country on Thursday are believed to be connected and involve an Islamic terror cell. The primary attack took place on a busy tourist thoroughfare in Barcelona late on Thursday when a rented van plowed into scores of pedestrians.

Multiple Jihadi attackers have been killed, two have been taken into custody and at least one of the perpetrators is believed to be still on the run according to authorities.
