Hizb ut-Tahrir, one of the largest Islamist campaign groups operating in the West, has dismissed the threat of terrorism as “statistically irrelevant”.

Responding to the thwarting of a plot to bring down a passenger jet — described as “elaborate” and “Islamic-inspired” by Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Andrew Colvin — the Islamist group shared a video which claimed that mundane tasks like having a bath and getting out of bed pose a bigger threat to the public than terrorism.

“‘Terrorism’ is statistically irrelevant in Australia, but the media and government continually exaggerate it, pretending to care about innocent lives when what they really care about is their own narrow economic and political interests,” the video rails.

“In the process, Muslim already under the pump are further demonised,” it claims, with accompanying footage of an actress in hijabi garb being hurled to the ground and stripped of her veil by white youths.

8 Things More Likely to Kill You Than “Terrorism”

After recent ‘anti-terror’ raids, Turnbull was quick to remind us that “the threat of terrorism is very real.” What is the reality of this threat? Here are 8 things more likely to kill you than ‘terrorism’.

Despite its relatively low Muslim population and geographic inaccessibility, Australia has suffered a number of terror attacks in recent years.

For example, in September 2014, Abdul Numan Haider stabbed two police counter-terrorism officers in Endeavour Hills, Melbourne.

Months later, Iranian migrant Man Haron Monis took 18 people hostage in a Sydney cafe, killing one after a long stand-off before armed police stormed the premises.

On another occasion in October 2015, Iranian-born Farhad Khalil Mohammad Jabar shot and killed an unarmed police support worker at the New South Wales Police headquarters in Paramatta.

It should be noted that the terrorism death toll would have been far higher if the security services had not been so effective in foiling planned attacks, too — in addition to the Sydney bomb plot, which could have claimed hundreds of lives, another 15 major terrorist attacks have been foiled since 2014.
