London’s Metropolitan Police have formally charged Finsbury Park terrorist Darren John Osborne, who has been held in police custody since Monday.
In a statement released midday Friday, the force said following an investigation by the MPS Counter Terrorism Command the suspected killer had been “charged with terrorism related murder and attempted murder” and that he would appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court Friday afternoon.
The charge levelled against Mr Osborne confirms police believe he killed 51-year-old grandfather Makram Ali in the early hours of Monday morning by ramming a van into a group of worshippers who had crowded around him after he collapsed. A police statement Thursday released the identity of the deceased Mr Ali for the first time, and confirmed he had died of “multiple injuries”.
