US Embassy London: Controlled Explosion on Unattended Vehicles

Police have carried out a controlled explosion outside the new United States Embassy in Wandsworth, London after concerns over two suspect unattended vehicles nearby.

The new embassy, which is presently under construction, and the area around it has been placed on lockdown. Specialist officers and elements of the emergency services were deployed to the area and cordons established.

A spokesman for the U.S. embassy said no diplomats were at the site of the time of the police operation.

Update, 7:40 PM BST: According to Twitter messages from the Wandsworth police department, two potentially suspicious vehicles were discovered and two controlled detonations carried out. “This was not terrorism-related,” said the police. “No one hurt, we’re just being vigilant.”
