Armed police have raided a flat above a bookmakers in a shop complex in East Ham Sunday afternoon, with locals claiming seven arrests have been made.
The Telegraph reports the owners of Sam’s Chicken Shop next door to the flat on Barking Road, East Ham, was raided by police earlier today when armed officers stormed the apartment at 2.15pm.
Seven people are alleged to have been arrested, according to locals who spoke to the newspaper.
A witness who saw the raid claimed the resident, his girlfriend, and five other individuals were also taken away from the property by police.
On arrival at the scene, armed police were filmed training their weapons towards the upper floor of the building, telling a person to “stand up” and “show your hands”.
Another witness, a resident of nearby Lonsdale Close, said the area was on lockdown with armed police “walking up and down”. The witness described hearing police sirens blaring out across the residential area.
At least half a dozen police vans were in the vicinity and a small cordon has been set up around the flat’s entrance.
Police have not confirmed if this raid is related to the London Bridge terror attack.
