Speculation Rife as Buckingham Palace Calls Emergency Meeting

Speculation raged overnight — including that HRH The Duke of Edinburgh Prince Phillip had died — as an “emergency meeting” of all royal staff from across the United Kingdom was apparently called by Her Majesty the Queen for Thursday.

While the Palace moved to calm speculation over the health of senior Royals Thursday morning, with one member of the Palace telling the Associated Press that there is “no cause for concern”, British Newspaper The Sun proceeded to publish a raft of pre-prepared coverage held in reserve by most news outlets for the eventuality of the death of major public figures.

Now deleted from their website, The Sun led this morning with the headline “Prince Philip Dead at 95 — How Did The Duke of Edinburgh Die, etc etc”. The story was shortly replaced with “Queen and Prince Philip are both ‘fine’ after she calls entire staff to ’emergency meeting’ at Buckingham Palace this morning”.

The Palace emphasised the meeting was not over the health of senior Royals, and watchers of the family noted that both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh enjoyed full days of official engagements on Wednesday, with the Duke making an appearance at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The special meeting comes the day after the Queen received the Prime Minister Theresa May’s resignation at Buckingham Palace, part of the process as the government moves towards the dissolution of Parliament ahead of the general election in June.
