Making reference to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, British MP Daniel Kawczynski has said he “has every confidence” that the UK, together with U.S. President Donald J. Trump, can defeat Islamic terrorism.
Breitbart Editor in Chief Alex Marlow heard that MP Mr. Kawczynski was just minutes from the carnage on Wednesday as events unfolded near Parliament when UK-born extremist Adrian Russell Ajao, known more recently as Khalid Masood, mowed crowds down on Westminster Bridge.
Speaking on Breitbart News Daily, the Conservative party politician told the U.S. website’s editor that security officers entered Parliament with guns “to herd” MPs “into a courtyard and then, ultimately, to Westminster Abbey”.
Once inside the iconic building, Mr. Kawczynski told Mr. Marlow that people’s thoughts and prayers were with those who had died, including police officer Keith Palmer.
There was “very much a British spirit” inside the iconic holy building, according to the MP, who recalled that he along with others who escaped Mr, Masood ‘drank tea and had biscuits’ in a “calm, measured” way.
Mr. Marlow heard that the Poland-born MP, along with “a small group” of others in the cathedral, “took advantage of being in a house of God”, praying collectively.
“And we lit a candle for the police officer who, it was announced while we were in the cathedral, that he had passed away,” said Mr. Kawczynski.
Noting that Mr. Kawczynski used “the word fighting” when speaking about “”radical Islamic terrorism”, as Mr. Marlow described Wednesday’s attack in Westminster, the Breitbart editor said he wants to have hope that “the people in London and in the UK understand” the threat that extremists from the religion pose.
“You’ve got it in one”, said the Conservative MP, noting that Islamic State radicals “want to create a caliphate”.
Mentioning the former Conservative party head of state Margaret Thatcher, who he said “took on terrorists when she was Prime Minister”, Mr. Kawczynski stated that he had every confidence that together, Britain and the U.S. can take on the “fight” against Islamic extremism and win.
